Albion sign striker Bas Savage

Posted in News | By Wilka

Dean Wilkins has today completed the signing of former Gillingham striker Bas Savage who joins the Seagulls on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract with the Gills.

Savage has signed a contract keeping him at the Withdean Stadium until the 31st of December 2007 and was available despite the closing of the January transfer window after failing to re sign with league one rivals Gillingham who he played for this season on a short term contract.

Bas has played for Reading, Wycombe, Bury, Bristol City before his move to Gillingham this season.

His goal scoring record doesn’t make for great reading with just 2 goals in 36 league starts. Standing at 6 foot 3 Bas is sure to be an old fashioned style center forward.

According to Wikipedia Savage is “known for his unpredictable, entertaining style, and extravagant step-overs.”

Perhaps more worryingly for Albion fans is the fact Wikipedia states his departure from Bristol City came following the arrival of former Albion flop Mark McCammon. I will reserve judgement until I see him for myself!
