Brentford preview

Posted in Previews | By Wilka

Brentford PreviewThis weekend sees the Seagulls fly into the Capital to take on struggling Brentford at Griffin Park looking to increase the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

The game is part of a double header with a Tuesday visit to fellow London side Leyton Orient who also find themselves at the wrong end of the table.

So on paper these are two games we really need to pick up points from if we are to relive any relegations worries that currently hang over the club.

The Bee’s are having a hard time of things at the moment not just on the pitch, but they also continue to struggle financially.

It was announced in last month that Brentford fan Matthew Benham would be taking over £3 million of the clubs debts and making them interest free, thereby saving the club £150,000 in interest payments each year which has also seen the end of the clubs connections with former Chairman Ron Noades.

Current Chairman is former BBC Director-General Greg Dyke, but the club is owned by Bees United, the Brentford Supporters Trust.

So basically the club are now run by the fans who also recently raised £40,000 to secure the signing of one time Albion target Neil Shipperley who has joined the club on a four month contract.

Currently sitting 2nd bottom of League Two the Bee’s will need Shipperley and his team mates to start turning their form around quickly if they are not to be relegated.

Rather ominously for the Albion Brentford come into the game off the back of an impressive 3-1 win away to Blackpool last weekend. On a more positive note they have only won 3 times at in the league Griffin Park this season.

So the worst home record in the league will come up against the Seagulls who’s away record is pretty good. With both teams desperate for points it should be an interesting game. The last few visits to Griffin Park for the Albion have been very forgettable with 4-0 thrashings a regular event
